Barista Guild of America Certification Program

THE SKILLS YOU NEED!

The BGA Certification is an ongoing educational program meant to grow with the specialty coffee industry and the barista craft. The purpose is to provide an organized framework of continuing educational classes and tests to create opportunity for growth for the working barista. Currently, there are three levels of professional certification designed to meet the needs of café owners, managers, and the working Baristas. The training courses and tests in the BGA Certification Program are designed and supported by the BGA and the SCAA Professional Development Committee, with collaboration among hundreds of member companies and individuals who might otherwise consider one another competitors, coming together to truly identify and support industry best practices. This collaboration provides a unique strength and credibility to all SCAA Certification Programs. All training is built upon SCAA standards and protocols where appropriate and individual courses are vetted through the SCAA Statistics & Standards Committee annually to ensure up-to-date compliance with respect to all standards.

Through the BGA Certification Program, the SCAA hopes to develop the professional barista's role in the specialty coffee community, whether as a career barista or as an instructor at our annual exposition or at regional skill building workshops. This program provides both content and testing to prove a distinguishable skill set needed for baristas to demonstrate the need for specialty coffee in a café environment.
